A short pre-ride check helps identify loose parts, tire problems and braking issues before they affect the journey.
A pre-ride inspection takes only a short time and is especially useful for folding e-bikes, where hinges and adjustable components are used frequently. The goal is not a full workshop service, but a consistent check of the parts most likely to affect control and safety.
First, confirm that the main frame hinge, handlebar stem, folding pedals and battery lock are fully closed and secured. Second, squeeze both brakes and make sure the levers feel consistent before moving. Third, inspect both tires for visible damage and suitable pressure for the load and route.
Fourth, check that the wheels are secure and rotate without obvious rubbing or wobble. Fifth, confirm that the front light, rear light and display operate correctly, particularly for rides in low light. Cargo should be attached firmly and kept clear of wheels, brakes and steering.
If anything feels different from the previous ride—such as new noise, loose steering, reduced braking or intermittent power—stop and investigate rather than hoping it will disappear. Regular professional servicing remains important, but a simple inspection before each ride is the first line of prevention.
