The mid-drive motor is widely praised for a low center of gravity and balanced weight distribution. This is true. Because the motor sits at the bottom bracket and the battery sits low in the down tube, the mass stays centered and close to the ground. Cornering and climbing feel more intuitive than with a rear hub system, and a dealer can show this directly during a demo ride.

Yet dealers often explain the benefit as "the motor is light." What actually shapes the ride is total system weight. A mid-drive system needs a reinforced bottom-bracket structure, heavier reduction gears, and a clutch, plus a controller and torque sensor. As a result, a mid-drive eMTB usually weighs 1 to 3 kg more than a comparable hub model, and that extra mass is not offset by any "lightweight motor" claim.

On technical trails that difference grows. Lifting, pushing, clearing obstacles, and balancing at low speed all become harder with extra mass. For lighter riders, female riders, and older users, this hidden burden never appears in a brochure but decides repeat purchases. Fleet buyers and rental operators notice it first, because their users complain about maneuverability before they complain about power.

For buyers, the right move is to weigh the complete bike, not the motor. Selling "a motor that is 800 g lighter but a bike that is 2 kg heavier" erodes trust over time. A safer approach is to recommend by use case and steer weight-sensitive users toward a light hub or a folding platform.

QERYU treats total weight budget as the first design rule. We lower structural redundancy with an integrated die-cast bottom-bracket shell, use an aerospace-grade aluminum chainring carrier, and integrate the controller and torque sensing inside the motor cavity. This keeps the mid-drive handling advantage while bringing total bike weight close to hub levels, so the dealer pitch moves from "a lighter motor" to "a lower total weight."
